krampus is common in austria and around, and st. nicholas is common in many european countries. in NL there is st. nicholas with black peter known..

from my own childhood I remember we cleaned our shoes at nicholas-eve 5th dec very clean and bright and met them in front of our window, getting up excitedly the next day in the very early morning of 6th dec to see if st. nicholas brought some sweets and fruits and nuts for us......



a poem I'm remembering well from my childhood:

Der Bratapfel
(Volksgut)

Kinder kommt und ratet,
was im Ofen bratet.
Hört wie's knallt und zischt,
bald wird er aufgetischt,
der Zipfl, der Zapfl,
der Kipfl, der Kapfl,
der gelbrote Apfel.

Kinder lauft schneller,
holt einen Teller,
holt eine Gabel,
sperrt auf den Schnabel,
für den Zipfl, den Zapfl,
den Kipfl, den Kapfl,
den goldbraunen Apfel.
