here the promised pics from my trip to erbil, capital and boom town of the kurdish auton. republic, part of iraq, using flags of both countries, but ppl have to request visa to visit each other!!!

the most famous place, the citadel from about 1000 years ago, situated just in the center of erbil is now trying to be registered as a world heritage site!! so they have settled downtown the ppl before living in the citadel, a small place with even narrow alleys, mosque, hammam and lots of houses 25 m high above the city. even the *wall* of the citadell had been the walls of houses around the citadell!!!! and as some parts like the main gate for instance had been restored in a modern way, they have to destroy them again and to build in the original ancient models to reach to be registered by UNESCO on day!!!!! it's worth to do!!!!!
