:-))) SUNSHINE EVERYWHERE!!!!!
puuuuuuuuh - it was soooo boring, so many days only RAIN - RAIN - RAIN... if there hadn't been the wedding we got mad for sure by all this rain............ :-(((

today ipuenktchen proposed to go DOWNTOWN and to take us with her!!!! and we got ready very fast und went by bus to the city center!

ohhhh - what happened in the bus?!?!?!!? the kids here are getting mad, too... like in europe... ;-))) imagine!!! there was a guy with a SQUIRREL on his shoulder!!!!!!! but grace a dieu, it was fixed by a dog leash!!!!!! we had never seen and heard here before....

so we jumped out from the bus and started to see what ipue had to do.. FOR SURE first of all to the main post office!!!! there is one of the common mail boxes in front, but not that much used - ppl prefer to give their mail inside the post-office!! ;-)))) and there we were so astonished about the beautiful stamp marks ipue asked there.. lucky postcrosser, you all, who will get such a card!! *thumbup*

then she showed us the ARK ali shah, the ancient citadel in the city center!! a building from loooong time agooooooo!!

they are building just beside the citadel the new friday prayer mosque - boaaah, how large is it!!!
and the large ark got hidden by this larger mosque!!

then we noticed, there was for some days an international cycling tour in this area and TODAY was the final day and the cyclists should be back in tabriz!! we didn't saw the cyclists but the posters everywhere and their *welcome* at a 4-star-hotel!

btw this little blue & yellow box has a special meaning in IR! whenever you worry about smth, for instance that you'll be successfull in anything, or don't get sick or it shouldn't happen anything bad for you during the day - however, ppl put some money in these boxes, sometimes coins, sometimes more..
and they will be relieved!! and there is a committee who collect the money and with this money decide to help to whom...!!!!?!?

when we arrived at the azerbaijan museum and had a look at it's nice stone garden beside!

beside this at the place of a famous boys elementary school a few years ago they built a cosy little park, called bustane khagani, which is adapted by retired men, who had nothing to do and looking for conversation and sunshine... khagani is a famous poet from tabriz and his monument we saw in front of us!!

in the background you can see the BLUE MOSQUE and backside the mountains with the pilgrimage mosque AINALI and the monument for the unknown soldiers (martyrs) on the top of the mountains.

there is a horizontal line just below - this is the new northern autobahn around tabriz to the tabriz airport.
as I told you in another posting when we were using this autobahn to go to jolfa!!

when we crossed the park to reach the blue mosque.

ipue is buying here all her cards from tabriz and east-azerbaijan county and we had a look again around the mosque!

if you notice in the next pic a special *most hated sign* - perhaps you like to know, this is an ancient sign of history since bronze and iron age which is known here with its four ends the four elements

- fire
- water
- air
- earth

and it is used very often in ancient islamic designs -
before it was misused by a special person in the thirties.... in numerous other cultures it is known as SWASTIKA, and swastika-like symbols appeared in bronze and iron age designs also in nearby caucasus and azerbaijan's history!

pls have a look at wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

unfortunately there is not that much written about persia; only they mentioned, used in indo-european cultures as aryans, persians, too. and lately in 2oo5 tajikistan it was announced as an aryan symbol for national use!

then we passed the ancient fire station tower and we were very curious to see the fire engines, but their gates had been closed..... :-(

after we entered the *tabriz ghadim*, the old city of tabriz where the covered bazar is situated and it's crossed by the former river of tabriz... there you can see nowadays only the riverbed with a small runnel.. they made it a small channel and with a nice park on both sides across the city! it's a nice idea, I think..
it must be beautiful in summer evenings!!

in the background you can see one of the oldest medivial mosques of tabriz *sabolamr mosque*, which hosts the qor'an museum nowadays!

ey - I understand, we had seen in ipue's saloon the same mosque as a painting!! wooooow!!!

foto painting sabolamr M

finally we had a break - we got tired a bit....
and we went into the park of seyed hamze and maghbara-al-shoarha.. quite crowded!!

seyed hamze is a pilgrimage place - usully they have beautiful mirror mosaics inside!! the women have to take the veil.. you can pick up one at the entrance.

the flowers were so beautiful there!!
and some school kids for a getaway..

in the same area is the huge monument, started to built in the last shah's era, the poet's mausoleum.
CROSSY had taken a photo from me, POSSY!!

ipue was so tired and invited us to an ice-cafe in front of the park and ordered some soft-ice for all of us! yummieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! and again CROSSY was taking a photo of me!!! :-)))))))

after we bought some garden flowers for her german friend in marand, as it will be her b-day next week, and so we straight went home... everybody really tired!!! nevertheless we had *a last-minute-rain*... :-((((((((
